Sweetwater

Archie "Buddy" Boyd, 92, of Sweetwater, Texas passed away,
Saturday July 4, at his home in Sweetwater. Services will be
held at First Baptist Church in Trent, Texas on Wednesday, July
8, 2009 at 10:00 Am with Burial following in Newman Cemetery,
under the direction of McCoy Funeral Homes in Sweetwater with
Reverend Ronnie Freeman and Reverend Clifton Jones officiating.

A visitation will be held on Tuesday evening, July 7, 2009 from
6: P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at McCoy Funeral Home of Sweetwater.

Archie Virgil Boyd was born in New Mexico on June 19, 1917, to
Robert Arch and Exa Elizabeth Mauldin Boyd, the seventh of nine
children. He was raised in the farming community of Newman in
Fisher County, graduating from Sylvester High School. He was a
veteran of World War II and attended McMurry College.

He retired as Postmaster from the United States Post Office in
Trent, Texas in 1981. He lived in Trent for many years loving
and appreciating his many friends there and was a member of
First Baptist Church of Trent.

Buddy Boyd married Alma Turnbow in August, 2004 and they have
lived happily in Sweetwater since that time. Some of their best
memories have been made at the S.N.A.P center where they have
enjoyed the fellowship of friends. On most any weekday, you
could probably find him playing pool there, one of his favorite
pasttimes.

A special part of Buddy's life has been music. Being from a
gifted musical family, he enjoyed singing and playing his guitar
whenever there was someone with whom to share. Through the years,
he had played at many churches and area gatherings with family
and friends.

Archie was preceded in death by his parents, brothers: Ross Boyd,
Fred Boyd, Bert Boyd, Earl Boyd, J.P. Boyd, and Damon Boyd;
sisters: Florence Boyd Howard and Vera Boyd Sharp as well as his
sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law.

Archie is survived by his wife, Alma and one son: Clifton Jones
of Groesbeck,TX, 3 Grandchildren and 10 Great-Grandchildren, and
7 Great-Great Grandchildren. Also surviving are step-sons: Eddie
Turnbow of Sweetwater and Rick Turnbow of Batown, Texas, Lelan
Turnbow of Colorado City and 9 step-grandchildren, and 13 step-
great-grandchildren, sister-in-law; Atha Lee Boyd of Imperial,
as well as many special nephews, nieces, and other relatives
and friends.

Pallbearers wll be Jackie Downey, Bernice Elliott, Jared Brimage,
Calvin Doyle Boyd, Arthur Ray Boyd, Richard Boyd.

Military graveside rites will be performed by Nolan County Honor
Guard.

Buddy was a well-respected, kind, and caring person and will be
greatly missed. Memorials may be made to the S.N.A.P. Center,1701
Elm, Sweetwater, TX 79556
