John Boyd enlisted in Co. F 43 Regiment of Mississippi 21 Apr 1862.

John Boyd was taken Prisoner at the battle of Corinth, MS

John Boyd's death: "CERTIFICATE TO BE GIVEN A SOLDIER AT TIME OF HIS DISCHARGE; I certify that the within named John Boyd a private of Captain Jno. P. Hampton Company F of the 43rd Regiment of Mississippi born in Fayette County in the state of Alabama aged 22 (?) years five feet nine inches high fair complexion grey eyes auburn hair and by occupation a farmer was enlisted by Jno. P. Hampton at Caledonia, Lowndes County, Miss., 21th day of April 1862 to serve for three years and is now entitled to discharge by reason of Death. Died on the 18th day of November 1862." Remainder of form pertains to pay due him. Date doesn't match of reports of his death. This is probably the date the form was made. He was missing after the Battle of Corinth which took place October 3-5, 1862. "

"Adjutant and Inspector General's Office Richmond, Va. March 21st, 1864; It appears from the muster Roll of Capt. Hampton's Company F of the 43rd Regiment Mississippi Volunteers, on file in this office, that Private John Boyd of his company was enlisted 3 years 21st April 1862 and supposed died date not given; James Melton, Major, A. A. Gen'l."

Nancy's claim

"The State of Alabama Fayette County, before me James Wilson, Justice of Peace for said county personally appeared Nancy J. Boyed and after being sworn in due form of law she deposited (?) and says that she is the wife of John Boyed deceased late a private of Capt. Hampton Company F 43 Regiment Mississippi Volunteers and she is therefore entitle to the arrears of pay that may due him from the Confederate States and that she has no children & deceased has none at his death and there is no administrator. Nancy J. Boyed and also came M. D.Loftis and Richard S. Murry and made oath as aforesaid that know John Boyed the husband of Nancy J. Boyed and the fact sworn to by her are true and I (?) am disinterested therein. M. D. Loftis, R. S. Murry. Sworn to and subscribed before me July the 9th 1863, J.M. Wilson, Justice of the Peace. State of Alabama Fayette County, I B. H. Williams, Judge of Probate in and for said county hereby certify that James M. Wilson is an acting justice of the peace in and for said county duely (?) and qualified as such and all his official acts are entitled to full credit. Given under my hand and seal of office the 28th Aug 1863. B. H. Williams, Judge of Probate"

"Columbus Miss September 28 1863, 2nd Auditor; Sir Enclosed you will find claim for deceased Soldiers pay made by his widow, there being no child or others on his estate. If the amt. due exceeds $100, she is willing to relinquish all but the $100, as it is expensive to take out admin (?) there being no property of dec'd requiring that administration be taken out. If these papers are in proper form, and an order can be given for payment you will confer a favor on one of the many poor widows of this war. Direct to the undersigned at Columbus, Miss; Respectfully yours, Tho Christian PS: If the papers are not in proper form will you please enclose a form to be filled out. T. C."
