Perhaps a young widowed brother/nephew/cousin or that unknown boy from the 1830 census was staying with them at the time, along with his 2 sons and 2 daughters.

William M. Hobbs served in the War of 1812. He elisted in Waynesboro in 1813 for the term of the war, was a Private in company commanded by Capt Thomas Forth and lter by Capt Stephen W. Blount, in the regiment commanded by Col. Few in the brigade of Brig Gen Floyd. He was honorably discharged at Waynesboro, GA 5 Mar 1815. He applied for bounty land for his service. Waynesboro is in Burke County, Georgia.
