Mississippi, Sunflower - GERALD ELDEN TURNER, 88, died Friday, October 12, 2007 at South Sunflower County Hospital in Indianola. Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Sunday, October 14 at Sunflower Baptist Church. Burial will be in Indianola City Cemetery under the direction of Boone-Card Funeral Home, Indianola. Mr. Turner was born in Drew, MS to Addie Frances and Henry Grady Turner on September 13, 1919. Mr. Turner attended Drew Public Schools and the present Mississippi Delta Community College, before leaving to serve in World War II. He served in the U.S. Navy as an instructor of aircraft engines. After an honorable discharge from the Navy, Mr. Turner attended Mississippi State University and Delta State University. Mr. Turner was a Vocational Education instructor of industrial electricity at Mississippi State Department of Corrections at Parchman for 30 years. Because of his love of Christ, Mr. Turner has served as a Deacon for over 60 years in The Blaine Baptist Church and Sunflower Baptist Church. He shared his faith in his Lord by ministering as Sunday School Superintendent and Sunday School teacher. Mr. Turner is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Mary Bush Turner of Sunflower; his children, Donna T. (John E.) Britt of Indianola, Gerald Elden (Wanda) Turner, Jr. of Richmond, VA, Tambrey T. (Duane V.) Naron of Spring , TX, Rev. Robert B. (Becky) Turner of Merigold, MS and Tarlei T. (Thomas H.) Hitchcock of Greenville, MS; 12 grandchildren, Cristin Britt Beshears, J. Elton Britt II, Gerald E. Turner III, Keisha Turner Ruble, Mary Kimberly Naron, Duane Vernon Naron, Terrell Turner Forman, Elise Turner Cobb, Robert B. turner, Jr., Thomas H. Hitchcock III, Mary Turner Hitchcock, and Linda Catherine Hitchcock; and 14 great-grandchildren; a sister, Marjorie T. Pressley of Wauchula, FL, and a brother, Henry G. Turner, Jr. of Abilene, KS. The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. Saturday, October 13 at Boone-Card Funeral Home, Indianola. Memorials may be made to Sunflower Baptist Church or to a charity of donor's choice. "As to the Turners:
Henry Grady Turner b 8-5-1890 d 12-22-1945 is the son of John N. Turner
b 2-20-1836 Pike Co. GA and Nettie Sophrona E. Ennis b 10-8-1851 Pike
Co. Ga. John and Nettie married in Pike Co. GA on 11-17-1867 and moved
to Kilmichael, Montgomery Co. MS about 1895.

John followed three of his brothers to MS. Those brothers were Green F.
Turner b 1830, Clinton A. Turner b 10-15-1845, and James Marion Turner b
2, 1838.
These brothers settled in Attala county in 1860 and you will find many
of the descendents of Green F. and Clint buried in Berea Cem. on the
Natchez Trace. A sister named Elizabeth married a Mr. Moore and removed
to Scott Co. MS at that time too, but I have no more on her.  "
